Dec. 4th, 2018 09:34 pm So like everyone else in the world, I'm reviving my Dreamwidth journal so I have a place to find people and engage with fandom once Tumblr explodes. I've been a lurker for a long time, but I did used to write some fanfic, so if you were into Hawaii Five-O femslash or plotty Lewis casefics back in 2011-2012, you might remember me. I'm
allheadybooks on AO3 and
allheadybooks on Tumblr.
These days I'm a very busy PhD student and fiction writer, so I read tons of fanfic (and appreciate it all so much!) but haven't been creating much new fannish content. I'd be down to join some comms though, if we can get some going, and I might be interested in writing for some flashfic challenges or something low-impact like that. If anybody knows where to find the femslash folks on here, please let me know! I like to read it myself, but I'm also always on the lookout for good femslash to pass on to my wife, who loves to read fic but prefers to have it curated for them.
Lately I've mostly been reading in MCU (especially Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel), OMG Check Please!, Venom, Black Sails, Killing Eve, and Hannibal. I've also followed Teen Wolf, Lewis, Victorian Farm, Vera, Discworld, Jeeves and Wooster, Elementary, Doctor Who, Hockey RPF, Stargate: Atlantis, and Due South over the years (decades?). And I'm doing an extremely belated deep dive into Supernatural fandom, which is--woof--quite the experience.
Nice to meet all you folks!

Date: 2018-12-06 03:43 pm (UTC)I've watched up to the middle of season 5, which is enough to have a solid understanding of the basic Heaven-and-Hell cosmology and have met most of the core characters. For everything that comes after, I'm developing this semi-subconscious geological theory of Supernatural: as in, fics that mention Kevin usually mention Charlie, so they must exist simultaneously; many fics talk about the Leviathons as a thing that happened in the distant past, so that plotline probably shows up somewhere in S6-S9 or so; only very recent fics have Mary as a character so she has to get brought back from the dead somewhere in the last few seasons. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to keep watching and find out if my theories are right.

Date: 2018-12-07 09:53 am (UTC)seriouly you've got a nose for it, you're mostly right on. (no real spoilers:) Charlie and Kevin didn't interact much but their characters reccur over the same seasons, so the summer hiatus fic that year where we pretend no one ever dies again on SPN had the entire Winchester 'family' including them happily living together having BBQs and stuff. It's my favourite.
But the consistency and quality of plots does take a turn for the worse after s5. seasons 1-5 were the best and sometimes I think it should have stopped there because the end of s5 is so perfectly done. But I also love so many of the later characters that I forgive a lot of inconsistencies and things that clearly happened ONLY because the writers needed to close off the current season but leave one big dangling thread for the next season to jump off. And I flatly ignore some stupid stuff they did.
Season 6 is usually considered the worst, if you decide to press on. It can be tough to push through instead of giving up in 6. Or 7. I didn't much care for the overacrhing plot in 7 either, and they're usually the weakest part, but episode to episode it holds up, and I love to pieces all the character moments. But then you might like a lot of post-s5 a lot more than me so who knows? There are definitely characters like Charlie that make a lot of it worth it.

Date: 2018-12-07 06:00 pm (UTC)It's weird what I do know from later seasons. I have a very clear image of CASTIEL'S COAT on the BANKS OF SOME RIVER OR SOMETHING because he has TOTALLY DIED (but not permanently of course). Haven't seen that episode, but it's been described so much in fic that it's fixed in my brain!
